Michael Price, a British pianist, arranger, and composer, has earned notice for his wide-ranging film and television scores, his arrangements for major recording artists, and his independent releases. He entered the field in the 1990s by writing for modern dance and choreography, resulting in multiple albums issued over time through the Control Room label. Film composer Michael Kamen recruited him to help realize the score for the 1997 feature Event Horizon, a project Kamen shared with the British electronic duo Orbital. Their close partnership lasted until Kamen’s death in 2003 and encompassed contributions to the 2000 X-Men score, Metallica’s 1999 live album S&M, and the soundtrack for the 2001 HBO mini-series Band of Brothers. Price also edited numerous film soundtracks, among them several entries in the Lord of the Rings cycle that began with The Fellowship of the Ring in 2001, an assignment that brought him a Golden Reel Award. Extensive work with David Arnold commenced with the 2007 score for Hot Fuzz and continued when Price composed for the BBC series Sherlock, which launched in 2010; the pair received an Emmy in 2014 for the show’s third season. Price joined Erased Tapes Records in 2012, releasing the EP A Stillness that same year and his first non-soundtrack solo album, Entanglement, in 2015.
