Biography
Hailing originally from Pennsylvania, California-based multi-instrumentalist Michael Stasis crafts playful experimental pop in a lo-fi mode, pulling from pop, rock, and indie traditions across the decades. Through his steady habit of writing and circulating dozens of songs in fragments, he assembled multiple compilations that made up his first body of recorded work, among them the self-released 17-track RIP (2003-2009) issued in 2011. Steady output followed with the synth-heavy Chainsaw in 2012 and Venus in Soap in 2014. Arbutus Records released the 12-track RIP III in 2015, a set that wove together spoken word, post-punk, novelty songs, psychedelic and garage elements, and additional styles.
