Michael Talbott, a San Francisco native, developed an appreciation for British folk music through his father's influence. His father's deep admiration for Nick Drake, Steeleye Span, and Fairport Convention led to Talbott attending his first Richard Thompson concert at the tender age of four. In his later years, Talbott performed with a hardcore group prior to returning to folk traditions by joining the Winter Flowers, a Bay Area ensemble celebrated for its Fairport-inspired style and Renaissance fair stage attire. Departing the group in the beginning of 2004, he assembled a fluid lineup for his new supporting band. Several players from the Court & Spark participated in this ensemble and provided access to their recording facility during the production of his first album. Following twelve months of studio work, the project Michael Talbott & the Wolfkings issued Freeze-Die-Come to Life through Antenna Farm in 2006.
