Biography
Michael Vidal belonged to Abe Vigoda, a Los Angeles band in which he oversaw four albums of hyperactive, colorful art pop. After the group disbanded in the early 2010s, he launched a solo project that reflected a different approach. His debut, Dream Center, first surfaced as a cassette in 2013 on the L.A. label Big Joy and drew from the sophisticated U.K. pop of the ’80s, giving equal space to the chiming guitar pieces of Durutti Column, the introspective soul-searching of Felt, and the smooth sounds of Prefab Sprout. Ryan Beal played bass and Tabor Allen played drums on the recordings. The tape attracted Couple Skate Records, which reissued the album on all formats in June 2015.
