Michna

Born Adrian Michna, the DJ and producer known as Michna blends instrumental hip-hop, electro, and IDM. He launched his career as a trombonist navigating the N.Y.C. circuit, performing ska at Lion's Den and CBGB before reaching legal drinking age. In the mid-'90s he relocated to Miami and launched the enigmatic DJ collective Secret Frequency Crew with Matthew Brown and Matt Friedman. Their track "Miami Eyes" earned favor among underground DJs and drew the interest of Diplo. Tasked with supplying beats for his next album, Diplo brought Michna, then recording as DJ Egg Foo Young, aboard for production work. The experience sparked Michna's focus on production, resulting in contributions to Bonde do Rolê's With Lasers and Secret Frequency Crew's debut release. Ghostly International founder Sam Valenti was drawn to the laid-back trip-hop vibe of Forest of the Echo Downs, and after hearing solo demos he offered Michna a place on the Ghostly roster. Michna settled in Brooklyn and delivered his debut LP, Magic Monday, in 2008, its artwork created by his associates in the Miami art collective Friends with You. He followed with the EPs Eggstra in 2009 and Moving Mountains in 2012. Michna also scored music for films, commercials, and video games including Hohokum, continued DJing independently, and returned with his second Ghostly album, Thousand Thursday, in 2015.
