Biography
Emerging from Kent, England in the early 1990s, the punk-pop trio Midway Still united drummer Declan Kelly, bassist Jan Konopka, and vocalist/guitarist Paul Thomson. Their first release, the 1991 single "I Won't Try" on Roughneck—a Fire subsidiary—landed at number 12 on New Music Express' year-end chart. A follow-up single preceded the 1992 album Dial Square, produced by Gumball's Don Fleming. Life's Too Long, produced by Leatherface's Frankie Stubbs, arrived in 1993 with a pair of accompanying singles. Declan Kelly's exit brought in Brad Aitchison, formerly of Speed Circus, on drums while the band parted ways with the label. They self-financed a third LP that stayed unreleased. After a long break beginning in 1994, the group returned in 2001 on Antipop with the single "Fuck You," now featuring Russell Lee on bass in place of Jan Konopka, in characteristically charming style.
