Biography
Born in San Antonio, Miguel Antonio discovered his artistic direction by immersing himself in the flamenco guitar traditions of Spain and South America. He has appeared globally as a solo performer and has also served as accompanist for Jose Greco and His Ballet Flamenco as well as Maria Benitez's Estampa Flamenca during multiple tours. As the son of a concert pianist, he began formal music lessons at age four; at eight he took up classical guitar with Pepe Romero. During his teenage years he continued his training with Andres Segovia, Juan Serrano, and Paco Pena. Although he enrolled at Southern Methodist University in Dallas in 1978, his decisive period of study occurred in Spain, where he worked with Mario Escudero and Sabricas. After returning to the United States he joined Jose Greco's flamenco dance troupe, traveling with the company across the U.S. and South America from 1983 through 1987. In 1988 he presented solo recitals in Japan, Spain, and England while also touring once more with Maria Benitez's Estampa Flamenca. Between 1991 and 1992 he both performed and taught in Mexico City at Universidad Oedagogias and Escuela Nacional De Mesia. He later came back to the United States to appear in the Broadway production of Man of La Mancha. Antonio currently instructs flamenco guitar in Dallas.
