Following the triumph of Shelly Berman's seated monologues, a male/female duo working the same territory was bound to surface, and Nichols & May captured that style with flawless accuracy. Their collaboration ended by the early '60s, prompting Elaine May to align herself with the Broadway theater crowd while Nichols established himself as a motion picture director.
