Biography
Mikey Bromley rose to notice as a member of the short-lived British pop outfit Only the Young after stepping into the vacancy created by George Shelley’s departure. Although his own name contained no “J,” Shelley had left to convert the existing trio Triple J into the four-piece Union J. The new lineup first attracted attention by winning a contest that earned them a slot on the bill at Capital FM’s 2014 summer ball at Wembley Stadium, where they appeared alongside Pharrell Williams, Miley Cyrus, and David Guetta. They next reached the live stages of the eleventh season of The X Factor—Bromley having already auditioned twice previously as a solo hopeful—before finishing seventh. Even so, the group declared in 2015 that they had secured a contract with Warner Music, which brought about the summer release of their debut single, “I Do.” The track opened at number 53 on the U.K. singles chart, yet mounting disagreements inside the management team led Only the Young to disband in November 2015. Bromley moved swiftly into solo work, and by February 2016 his first album, This One’s for You—written and recorded with platinum-selling songwriter and producer Jamie Sellers—reached stores. To mark the release he launched his initial U.K. headline tour under the name This Tour Is for You, a title chosen, like the album’s, as an explicit acknowledgment of his steadfast supporters.
