Mikey Smith's fervent political beliefs infused his dub poetry with sharp intensity, yet those same convictions led to his death by stoning amid partisan violence in Jamaica's Stony Hill district. Kamau Brathwaite channeled the tragedy into his poem Stone. Smith once characterized his method with the assertion "Me is a man who have built-in rhythms in my head and me can hear dem," underscoring a personality marked by stark inconsistencies. Though he professed contempt for Wordsworth and Shakespeare, he nonetheless created a video presenting his own reading of a William Blake poem.
