Melbourne-based musician Mikey Young built his reputation through participation in Eddy Current Suppression Ring, a high-energy garage punk combo, and Total Control, a project leaning more toward synth textures. His engineering and mastering contributions across countless Australian releases, plus international titles, during the 2010s nevertheless account for his widest recognition. Concurrently he developed avant synth pop songs and bubbling ambient pop pieces at home, later gathered on the 2017 collections You Feelin' Me? and Your Move, Vol. 1.

Eddy Current Suppression Ring originated in 2003, with Young handling guitar duties under the name Eddy Current. Throughout the remainder of the decade the group delivered its reductive, forceful brand of garage punk via albums on Goner, Shock, and Mexican Summer before disbanding in the early 2010s. In that period Young also performed with the Ooga Boogas and Brain Children while refining his engineering and mastering abilities. Numerous acts, including the UV Race, Deaf Wish, the Twerps, Fabulous Diamonds, Royal Headache, and many others, sought his work because of the clean, forceful sonics he achieved.

During Eddy Current Suppression Ring’s active years, Young partnered with David West in Total Control. The duo issued the landmark avant synth punk album Henge Beat in 2011, followed by singles and the Typical System album in 2014. The pair additionally formed the soundtrack-oriented synth project Lace Curtains, releasing singles on DFA and Mexican Summer in 2013 and 2014.

Mastering assignments expanded around this time, establishing Young as a familiar name among garage punk listeners who examined liner notes, where his credit functioned as an informal seal of quality. At home he continued shaping instrumental synth pieces influenced by Tangerine Dream and Brian Eno, spanning extended ambient explorations and concise, memorable tracks. Hobbies Galore released You Feelin' Me? in 2017, compiling material recorded between 2013 and 2017; later that year Moniker Records presented his debut proper solo album, Your Move, Vol. 1. Young maintained a full schedule of behind-the-scenes work in subsequent years, returning briefly to wider attention when Castle Face reissued You Feelin' Me? in late 2019.
