Biography
Miles Corbin, a guitarist and composer who has created pieces for both television programs and feature films, achieved his widest recognition as the frontman of the instrumental surf rock outfit Aqua Velvets. Drawing influence from 1960s surf pioneers such as Dick Dale and the Ventures, the quartet maintains a strictly non-vocal approach, with Corbin joined by second guitarist Hank Maninger, Michael Lindner on bass, keyboards and accordion, and drummer Donn Spindt. Their first album arrived in 1992 as a self-titled effort assembled on a modest budget inside the band’s basement home studio, where Corbin even tracked additional guitar parts from the back seat of a car. Once the opening run on the group’s own imprint sold through, further collections appeared: Surfmania in 1995, Nomad in 1996, and Guitar Noir in 1997. Corbin stepped forward with his initial solo outing, Sounds From the Tiki Hut, in 2000.
