Born in Savannah, Georgia, Millie Scott performed with southern gospel ensembles including the Pilgrim Gospel Singers and the Sermonettes before shifting her focus to jazz. She later joined Bobby Dilworth And The Blazers and subsequently relocated to New York City, where she undertook session work. After establishing the Glories she recorded the single “I Stand Accused” for Date. Additional sessions with the Temptations prompted her move to Detroit, where she assembled Quiet Elegance; while touring with that ensemble she also contributed to dates by the Temptations and the Spinners. In the 1970s Willie Mitchell placed Quiet Elegance on Hi, yet Scott soon departed to record with Al Green. In 1976 she formed Cut Glass with Ortheia Barnes and remained with the group through 1979. Further session activity preceded her 1986 signing with Island, for which she completed two albums in the late ’80s and scored a Top 20 R&B hit with “Every Little Bit” in 1987.
