Biography
New York City drum'n'bass duo Ming + FS developed what they called their distinctive “junkyard” approach by weaving together strands of old school hip-hop, jungle, electro, turntablism, and live instrumentation. The pair first crossed paths in 1996 when one of them was playing trip-hop records at a house party; weeks afterward they joined forces on a run of breakbeat productions and soon secured a deal with Brooklyn Music Limited under the moniker Leadfoot. During 1997 they launched both the Madhattan recording studio and an identically named label, while also handling remixes for artists ranging from DJ Spooky to the Notorious B.I.G. and attracting attention with EPs such as NY's Lucky Charm and Junkyard Drum'n'Bass I. Their contribution to the This Is Jungle Sky mix series paved the way for the full-length debut Hell's Kitchen, issued by Om Records in 1999. Further Om releases followed in the shape of The Human Condition in 2001 and Subway Series in 2002, before the duo moved to Spun for the 2004 album Back to One.
