Biography
Mishaal Tamer surfaced on the wider pop landscape via a wide-ranging fusion of electro-pop, rock, and Arabic music together with numerous further influences. Born in Saudi Arabia, the singer, songwriter, and producer trained at New York’s Clive Davis Institute and converted the momentum from early releases such as 2019’s “Arabian Nights” into a major-label contract that yielded his first EP, Life’s a Ride, in 2020. Although later team-ups with Hugel on “Can’t Love Myself,” Sarcastic Sounds on “Closure” featuring Birdy, and OneRepublic on the 2023 game track “Mirage” for Assassin’s Creed Mirage earned favorable notice, Tamer elected to operate independently when issuing his inaugural full-length, THE DEEP, in 2023. The next year brought HOME IS CHANGING, whose singles “ITTY BITTY” and “BABA FEIN” illustrated his steadily broadening international palette.
Jaddah, Saudi Arabia, is where Tamer was born to a Saudi father and an Ecuadorian mother. Singing occupied him from childhood, yet a broken arm at age nine led doctors to prescribe guitar lessons to aid nerve-damage recovery; the instrument soon supplied an essential emotional outlet amid schoolyard bullying and isolation. As a teenager he relocated to Jordan for boarding school, where he formed a heavy metal band before shifting toward indie pop and jazz. He became the first Saudi admitted to the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music in New York. During those studies he began posting anonymous music clips online; several circulated widely, new friendships formed, and music became a crucial lifeline. Additional singles on assorted labels appeared in the late 2010s.
While back in Saudi Arabia he cut the slinky love song “Arabian Nights” (2019), which blended Arabic, Spanish, and English verses and accumulated millions of streams across social platforms and services, attracting major-label attention. Returning to the United States, he signed with RCA Records, which issued tracks such as “Peddle Bike” and the EP Life’s a Ride in 2020. A guest turn that year on Italian downtempo producer Kina’s atmospheric “Tell Me About You” reached tens of millions of streams and broadened his audience. Sheltering in his New York City studio during the COVID-19 pandemic, he sharpened his songwriting and production skills while teaching himself piano, bass, and drums. Around the same period he appeared on recordings by Sarcastic Sounds (“Closure” with Birdy) and Hugel (“Can’t Love Myself” with LPW).
After parting with RCA and returning to Saudi Arabia, Tamer issued self-reflective independent singles such as “Look into My Eyes” and “Time Goes By” in 2022. Following the October 2023 collaboration with OneRepublic on “Mirage” for the Assassin’s Creed Mirage soundtrack, he delivered his debut album THE DEEP in December via Arabian Knights Records/EMPIRE. Early 2024 saw the solo Valentine’s Day EP THE HEART, while “Mirage” later surfaced on the compilation NRJ Hits 2024 and on OneRepublic’s July album Artificial Paradise. That October Tamer released HOME IS CHANGING, spotlighting singles “ITTY BITTY” and “BABA FEIN.” These recordings foregrounded his expansive stylistic range—indie rock, jazz, K-pop, urban Latino, and Arabic Khaleeji music among others—in pursuit of a deliberately global sound.
