Forming in Suffolk, this UK indie outfit drew comparisons in certain circles to the Manic Street Preachers when their first full-length effort, God Bless Miss Black America, surfaced in 2002, largely because of their taste for bold, attention-grabbing statements. At the core stood Seymour Glass handling vocals and guitar, alongside Mickey Smith on bass and Neil Baldwin on drums; accounts suggest the three initially crossed paths during a drum ‘n’ bass event held in Cambridge. From there the group began cultivating local support, which earned them an opening-act position on the Dandy Warhols’ British dates. By 2000 they had issued an untitled four-track demo and added Gish as a second guitarist. The resulting quartet maintained a steady output of EPs and singles that paved the way for the September 2002 arrival of their debut album.
