The retro-funk outfit Miss Fairchild came together in Boston during 2004, though its three core members had already been acquainted for some time. Frontman Daddy Wrall inherited his stage presence from a lineage that included both his father and grandfather, each a Congregational minister. Production duties fell to Samuel P. Nice, better known as Sammy Bananas of Certified Bananas, whose prior work included remixes for assorted rock and hip-hop acts. Completing the lineup, instrumentalist Schuyler Dunlop had circled the globe on a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship while immersing himself in flute and additional instruments. Embracing blue-eyed soul under the Miss Fairchild banner, the trio issued its debut full-length, Album, through Nantucketastrophe in 2004. A follow-up EP, Housing Prodgect, arrived the next year, and the group also contributed production to JedSed’s Lipschitz: Jed Sed. Onstage they expanded into the Miss Fairchild Show, bringing aboard bassist Trick Johnson and drummer Todd “The Rocket” Richard. Issued in May 2007, The Miss Fairchild Mixtape served as a prelude to the second album, Ooh La La Sha Sha, scheduled for release on the Jive Sucka! label on November 13, 2007.
