Biography
Garrett Jones launched the solo project Mister Suit in 2010, channeling his restless creativity as a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter once he stepped away from a two-year drumming role with the intense rock outfit Mason Proper. His sonic palette pulled from the angular energy of 1980s college-rock staples such as Joy Division, Talking Heads, and the Cure, alongside more recent touchstones including Handsome Furs and Spoon, resulting in tracks anchored by buoyant synth-pop grooves and jagged guitar-rock frameworks. Shortly after assembling the project, Jones relocated from Ann Arbor, Michigan, to Chicago, where he began performing around town in late 2011, handling live guitar and vocals atop pre-recorded instrumental beds drawn from his own home sessions. Beyond a series of self-produced and independently issued recordings, the 2013 single “Get It Right” took shape at Pieholden Suite Sound—the studio once operated by former Wilco member Jay Bennett—under the guidance of engineer Matt DeWine.
