Active solely during a narrow span stretching from the tail end of the 1960s into the opening of the 1970s, the British ensemble Misty specialized in organ-centered psychedelic rock that blended classically trained progressive flourishes with direct pop melodies. The group issued only a solitary single prior to its dissolution, yet in 2022 the Grapefruit label brought forth Here Again, an album of previously unreleased late-’60s recordings.

The lineup consisted of lead guitarist Freddie Green, drummer John Timms, organist Michael Gelardi, bassist Steve Bingham, and lead vocalist/second guitarist Tony Wootton. Members aimed to merge the refined grace of baroque composition with the rawer textures of the psychedelic and progressive sounds then emerging. Manager Michael Grade secured support slots alongside Roy Orbison plus several radio and television spots. Late in 1969 the band entered Regent Sound Studios to lay down tracks slated for a debut album. That project remained vaulted at the time; instead, 1970 saw the release of their lone 45, “Hot Cinnamon” b/w “Cascades,” on Parlophone. The single garnered scant label push and public notice, prompting Misty’s swift breakup.

Over subsequent decades “Hot Cinnamon” attained cult status among prog-psych collectors, generating sufficient interest for the band’s remaining archival material to surface. The unreleased 1969 sessions finally appeared as Here Again in 2022.
