Drawing from '70s pop, jazz, rock, '60s sunshine pop, and additional sources, Mitch Davis devoted extensive time to multiple Canadian music communities, functioning as a sideman, songwriter, and producer ahead of his own frontman debut. His first solo album, entirely self-recorded and issued in 2022 as The Haunt, fused intricate sonic layers with an airy quality while linking motifs of loneliness and isolation to a forward-looking tone.

A musician and multi-instrumentalist active for nearly his whole life, Mitch Davis performed drums during church services and saxophone in school ensembles throughout his upbringing, despite lacking any formal training. Engaging deeply with the scenes in Clearwater, followed by Edmonton and then Montreal in adulthood, he contributed to an array of acts such as the avant-garde project Elle Barbara's Black Space, the rock outfit Faith Healer, and the wide-ranging hip-hop artist Cadence Weapon. As touring and recording halted broadly with the 2020 pandemic's onset, Davis worked alone in his home studio, composing, tracking, and performing every instrument across his wide-ranging solo debut while also fabricating gear for the sessions, among them the analog Mitch Davis Compressor. The resulting album, The Haunt, appeared on Arbutus Records in April 2022, just as arrangements advanced to offer his compressor for commercial release.
