Biography
Known alternatively as Miwagemini, Miwa Gemini entered the New York City performance circuit during the opening years of the 2000s with twangy, moody compositions that situated her alongside My Brightest Diamond and St. Vincent. Attention followed quickly; a short span after her initial appearance, she earned airplay on NPR's All Songs Considered and received the Sky Harvest Award at Toronto Indie Week. Issued in 2004 under the simpler billing Miwa, her first collection Forgetful Ocean and Other Strange Stories came out on the Canadian label Butterflymask Records. The spring of 2008 brought her initial full-length under the Miwagemini name, This Is How I Found You, through Rock Park Records. Three years afterward she delivered the concept album The Fantastic Lies of Grizzly Rose, centered on an imagined companion.
