Italian rock outfit Modà originated after vocalist Francesco "Kekko" Silvestre crossed paths with guitarist Matteo "Tino" Alberti and Enrico Palmosi, who would later serve as the group’s arranger. Keyboardist Paolo Bovi, already a longtime acquaintance of Silvestre, soon completed the early lineup, and the musicians—each of them Milan natives—started performing regularly throughout their hometown. The additions of lead guitarist Diego Arrigoni, bassist Stefano Forcella, and drummer Manuel Signoretto rounded out the ensemble; their relentless schedule of live dates quickly cultivated a dedicated regional audience. A pivotal opportunity arose in 2003 when a RaiUno artistic director caught one of those concerts and invited the band onto national television. Following the broadcast, their debut single “Ti Amo Veramente” appeared, accompanied by a self-titled full-length album.

After inking a deal with Around the Music Records in 2005, Bovi departed; the remaining five members nevertheless continued, issuing the follow-up Quello Che Non Ti Ho Detto in 2006 with Palmosi handling studio keyboard parts. Two years afterward they returned with Sala D’Attesa, now featuring replacement drummer Claudio Dirani and guitarist Enrico Zapparoli in place of Signoretto and Alberti. A 2009 compilation, Le Origini, collected earlier material.

The Ultrasuoni imprint welcomed Modà in 2010, pairing them with producer Brando. The next year delivered mainstream breakthrough via three Top Five singles—“Sono Già Solo,” “La Notte,” and “Arriverà,” the last a collaboration with Emma—while the album Viva i Romantici ascended to number one for five weeks and approached half a million units sold. Gioia arrived in 2013, also topping the Italian chart on the strength of “Se Si Potesse Non Morire” and “Dove è Sempre Sole,” the latter featuring Pau Donés of Jarabe de Palo.
