Biography
The contemporary bluegrass group Modern Hicks, based in Sonoma County, brings together vocalist Gina Blaber, Kevin Russell on guitar, mandolin, and five-string banjo, mandolin and guitar player Layne Bowen, bassist Tom Sours, and dobro specialist Craig Anderson, who also contributes banjo. Their crisp sound draws from an eclectic range of influences that includes Bill Monroe and the Beatles, and it is showcased on the band's first album, Out Among the Stars, released by Jackalope Records in 1999.
