Emerging from Dallas, Texas, Modern Pain channels straight-edge hardcore through a noisy, feedback-drenched approach shaped equally by noise rock and grindcore alongside the aggression of 1980s hardcore and thrash. Their songs confront alienation, paranoia, and personal suffering, frequently adopting the viewpoint of a drug abuser facing addiction’s unforgiving consequences. The group came together in 2010 and soon carried its intense live show to venues across Texas while issuing a pair of limited-edition cassettes. Their debut 7" EP, Self Deconstruction, appeared on the Massachusetts-based hardcore label Six Feet Under Records in 2014. Attention from Bridge Nine Records, another prominent hardcore label based in Massachusetts, led to a signing in early 2015. The first release under this arrangement was the 7" single "Peace Delusions," backed by a cover of Sonic Youth’s "Kill Yr. Idols." The band tracked its full-length debut in Philadelphia with producer Arthur Rizk. Issued by Bridge Nine in September 2015, the album Peace Delusions presented a denser, even psychedelic character that departed from earlier recordings.
