Listen on Coda
The Argentinean duo Modular crafts dreamy, spacy compositions inspired by the synthesizer-driven easy listening sounds of the 1960s and 1970s, drawing comparisons to the Free Design, Stereolab, and the High Llamas. Taking their name from the Moog Modulator synthesizer, Mariana Badaracco and Pablo Dahy began working together in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 2000 on material that would form Modular’s earliest recordings. Over the following eight years the pair issued several self-released demo discs, including 2003’s Fecunidad del Cosmos, 2004’s Viaje por el Planeta del Pasto, 2005’s El Triangulo de las Bermudas, and 2008’s Micro Film. They also contributed tracks to a number of compilation releases such as Flasheando, Mezcladitos de Kidart, and When You Come, Bring the Sun. In 2008 Modular signed with Madrid, Spain’s Elefant Records, which issued their first full-length album for the label, Fantasias de un Robot Psicodelico, the next summer. The duo followed that release in 2011 with Sinfonías Para Terrícolas and, after an extended hiatus, resurfaced in 2016 with the disco-influenced Fuga al Paraiso.
