Moe Bandy & Joe Stampley

The impromptu collaboration between two veteran solo performers began with a casual chat at London's Hard Rock Cafe. There, the musicians quipped that the name "Moe & Joe" carried nearly the same melodic ring as "Waylon & Willie." Upon returning stateside, the pair recorded their joint project Just Good Ol' Boys, released in 1979. Amid a scene crowded with overly earnest songwriters—not every composition needed the depth of "Help Me Make It Through the Night"—the duo's rowdy, camaraderie-focused comedy offered a refreshing change. Still, the pairing hindered their solo paths, with the combined efforts outshining individual work. They ended the Moe & Joe idea for good after issuing the 1984 parody of Boy George, "Where's the Dress."
