Hailing from South Korea, Mogwaa fashions an eclectic array of sounds tailored to sunset gatherings on a tropical shoreline, pulling influence from eighties boogie, house, and electro. In addition to a string of high-energy club singles, he has issued mellower Balearic beat projects such as the 2022 mini-album Del Mar and Hazy Dreams in 2023.

Seoul resident Seungyoung Lee, performing as Mogwaa, launched his recording career with the eccentric boogie-funk of Déjà Vu in 2017 on the American imprint Star Creature. The following year saw the release of the soundtrack-like mini-album 07307, while Redseal Records put out the reggae-tinged single “Mi Male Curiosity.” Mogwaa honored influential R&B producer Kashif on 2019’s Till Dawn; that same year also yielded the EP Pilgrim along with a 7" single shared with Andre Gibson. Lee maintained an especially active schedule throughout 2020. Days in the Hood surfaced on the Thai label More Rice, and 8Balltown issued the 7" Mogwaa N Jam, a set of slow jams featuring vocalist Xin Seha. The EP Eu Li, recorded with Mr. Ho, incorporated Brazilian funk carioca elements on its opening cut “Bail-E.” Also appearing that year were the eighties R&B-styled Open Mind and the more aquatic Turquoise. MM Discos released Mogwaa’s Balearic mini-LP Del Mar in 2022, after which Peggy Gou’s Gudu Records issued the club-focused From Above EP; Zen2000 closed the year with A Garden Inside. Gudu followed in 2023 with the house EP Drifted, while MM Discos presented the Balearic album Hazy Dreams.
