Biography
Originating from Rockville, Maryland, Matt Moldover absorbed the pervasive influences of MTV and mainstream pop culture during his formative years. His trajectory shifted decisively once computers, programming, jazz, and electronic music entered the picture amid guitar coursework at Boston's Berklee College of Music, propelling him swiftly into recognition as Moldover, the mashup king, DJ, and experimental guitarist. From his New York City base he circulated widely across local venues, functioning as both accompanist and DJ while fusing live remixing with sample manipulation in the approach he termed "remashing." Ownership restrictions on much of the underlying material created obstacles to issuing those remashes commercially on physical formats. By November 2005 he had already uploaded live mixes to his website, was developing an original soundtrack for a video game, and was contributing guitar to N.Y.C.-area singer/songwriter Sarah Fimm.
