Biography
Ricky Ducati, a Canadian singer and songwriter, first drew attention for his expressive pop singing voice as one half of the duo Midnight to Monaco, later joining forces with Møme to create their opening full-length project Flashback FM in 2021.
Edmonton, Alberta, served as the setting for his upbringing amid constant musical exposure; his mother had performed as a disco artist in Indonesia during the 1980s, and his father worked as a producer. While his brother embraced music without delay, Ducati waited until age 14 to begin playing bass in support of those songs. He then explored music production programs to craft original rhythms, attracting early notice from digital music outlets. Influences from the disco era of his youth and the hard-rock energy of acts such as Led Zeppelin allowed his work to span both worlds. In 2012, while attending music college, he contacted Empire of the Sun’s Jonathan Sloan through social media and received an invitation to record in London. Abandoning his studies, Ducati spent six months in the U.K. with Sloan before the two continued their collaboration in Australia under the Midnight to Monaco banner. Their debut single, “Suicide,” surfaced in 2015, after which they signed with Island Records; the arrangement produced only a few tracks before ending. Around the same period, Møme delivered a remix of that single under the title “Alive,” which entered the French charts. Ducati was asked to supply live vocals with Møme, and the two established a rapport. After Midnight to Monaco disbanded, Ducati began writing material for other pop performers before reconnecting with Møme in 2020 on the single “Got It Made.” At the start of 2021 they released their debut album Flashback FM, pairing Ducati’s soulful pop vocals with Møme’s vintage French-disco-inflected electronics.
