Drawing its moniker from Russ Meyer’s 1968 film, The Mondo Topless transplanted the raw 60s raunch of The Sonics and The Stooges into their hometown of Philadelphia when the group formed in 1992. Fronted by a hand-me-down Vox Continental organ, the quartet delivered its unadorned, high-velocity rock on the 1995 single “I Want You To” b/w “Real Gone Girl.” After issuing their debut long-player Fifty-Thousand Dollar Hand Job through 360 Twist Records, the stabilized roster—Sam Steinig on vocals and organ, Tom Connors on drums, John Loxterman on bass, and Kris Alutius on guitar—spent the following two years crisscrossing the United States. Dionysus Records later issued the band’s sophomore effort, Get Ready For Action, in 1998.
