Biography
Leander Pickett, who performs under the name Money Over Sex or M.O.S., grew up in Durham, North Carolina. At sixteen he was expelled from school and removed from his mother’s home. Within the next two years he joined Hot Block, a Durham-based crew of artists, MCs, and producers whose mixtapes earned the group local recognition. Just as his own profile began to rise, however, an arrest led to a period of incarceration. Upon his return he connected with producer Ski Beats, yet work on their joint recordings stalled when Elektra underwent a corporate merger with AOL/Time-Warner. While readying tracks for release on Jive, he maintained his presence on the mixtape scene.
