Monolith

Monolith emerged in 1994 as an underground collective uniting Toronto hip-hop crews Lyrical Coalition and The Horde, its rotating lineup averaging more than fifteen members. Because each participant remained occupied with separate solo pursuits and production contracts, the crew’s first official release, The Long Awaited EP, did not reach the public until 1998 via their own One Rock Records imprint. Issued the same year without support from major-label executives, the follow-up single “Bye D’Plenty”/“At The T.O.P.” continued the independent rollout.
