Biography
Although raised in Texas, Monroe Mustang originated in Norman, Oklahoma, where Jason Stout, Brian Barry, and Taylor Holland first crossed paths while enrolled at Monroe Elementary School, the institution known as home of the Mustangs. The three soon encountered Mike and Chris Linnen, at which point the group coalesced. Once their college years concluded, the musicians established themselves in Austin. Prior to any full-length release, Monroe Mustang put out a pair of singles—“I Was 18, It Was Hate”/“Maude” and “Wusses”/“Carcrash Head”—after which the Austin-based imprint Trans Syndicate delivered the band’s debut album, Plane Sweeping Themes for the Unprepared, in 1998. Jagjaguwar followed with the sophomore effort The Elephant Sound the next year, and De Avonden 091099 appeared during the autumn of 2000.
