Brighton’s Monsters Build Mean Robots craft dramatic, dynamic compositions dense with electronic textures and looping guitar lines. Drawing influence from the instrumental post-rock of Godspeed You Black Emperor!, the group took its name from a line in A Silver Mt. Zion’s “Horses in the Sky” and began as a side project assembled by musicians from Court of Hidden Faces and Last Days of Lorca. Following the 2007 release of their self-titled debut on Nice Weather for Airstrikes Records, the band broadened beyond its original configuration by adding vocalists, a cellist, and a violinist while shifting focus to material suited for vigorous live performances that no longer depended primarily on laptop beats. August 2011 brought the sprawling five-song follow-up WeShouldHaveDestroyedOurGeneralsNotTheirEnemies.
