Monsterworks, a death/thrash metal outfit, came together in Wellington, New Zealand, during the closing years of the 1990s, founded by longtime friends Jono, who handled vocals and guitar, alongside Ian Brock on lead guitar. The group progressively relocated their operations to England as the new millennium began, coinciding with the issuance of their initial pair of recordings, Dimensional Urgency in 2000 and Rogue in 2002. After establishing themselves in the U.K., the pair added bassist Hugo and drummer Chris Mills to the lineup, proceeding to issue further cerebral death metal efforts such as M-Theory in 2003 and The Precautionary Principle in 2006, which incorporated cosmic motifs and quirks reminiscent at times of Anacrusis and Strapping Young Lad. Demonstrating their innovative approach, the musicians distributed their fifth full-length, Spacial Operations from 2007, as a gratis download via the internet, before unveiling their next effort, Singularity, in 2009.
