Biography
Moonlight Rodeo, an alternative country outfit, emerged from informal living-room sessions in San Rafael, California, during 1994, featuring early participants like Jesse Lee Kincaid, a founding member of Rising Sons, along with Kurt Huget and Mayne Smith. David Getz, who helped establish Big Brother & the Holding Company, became part of the group at a later stage. The core members eventually came together as Huget handling guitar and vocals, Lauralee Brown providing vocals, Jon Mitguard on pedal steel guitar, Tony Bowers playing bass, and Mike Spinrad at the drums. Their first record appeared in 2000, with Rio Lindo arriving three years afterward and featuring contributions from Kincaid, Smith, Getz, Bruce Barthol—a founding member of Country Joe & the Fish—and Robert Hunter, the Grateful Dead's lyricist, who penned lyrics for five tracks on that album.
