Biography
Born on 11 November 1876 in Searcy County, Arkansas, the Morrison twins Abbie (full name Abbie Sherman Morrison, died 4 July 1965) and Apsie (full name Apsie Sherdon Morrison, died 1964) grew up in a household steeped in music, where their father, grandfather and an uncle each earned recognition as accomplished fiddle players. Following that lineage, the brothers joined assorted ensembles and entered fiddle contests for many years. A 1930 Memphis session captured Abbie’s guitarist sons Claude and Lawson backing the pair on the traditional numbers ‘Dry And Dusty’ and ‘Ozark Waltz’, their only known recordings. Shortly afterward a family dispute led Apsie to settle in a different region of the state. Each continued performing on his own and came to be regarded as leading interpreters of Ozark fiddle and string-band traditions. County Records later placed both tracks on Echoes Of The Ozarks Volume 1.
