The quartet Motion Pictures drew its membership from Tom Gardner, Rupert Brown, Anthony Truckell, and Jack Clutterbuck, all based on the Isle of Wight, and shaped a hazy blend of 1960s pop, psychedelia, British folk traditions, and Pink Floyd’s more unconventional leanings. The musicians first assembled in 2003 under the name Live Ambient Workshop, during which time they released an EP. They soon adopted the Motion Pictures identity, and after a string of encouraging early shows landed a contract with Town Full of Fonzies, a Groove Attack subsidiary. Their self-titled debut album reached stores in the U.K. in June 2005, followed by its American issue that August.
