Biography
In the 1970s saxophonist Gilbert Holmstrom led the Swedish free jazz group Mount Everest Trio, whose lineup also featured drummer Conny Sjokvist and bassist Kjell Jannson. Their recordings blended interpretations of works by Ayler, Gary Bartz and Ornette Coleman with original compositions and abundant improvisation. Atavistic reissued the trio’s 1975 album Waves From Albert Ayler, appending previously unreleased studio material, as part of John Corbett’s Unheard Music Series.
