Biography
Cheena draws from the glittering grit and raw energy of 1970s New York as well as West Coast cowpunk from the following decade. The lineup unites Walter Behl and Eugene Terry of Crazy Spirit with Anasazi’s Keegan Dakkar, Pharmakon’s Margaret Chardiet, and Logan Montana from Hank Wood & the Hammerheads. The musicians came together in 2014 specifically to step outside their previous endeavors. That decision also prompted a reshuffling of instruments, with Chardiet switching to guitar from electronics, Dakkar taking up bass, Terry moving to drums, and Montana handling slide guitar. Echoes of Lou Reed, Kiss, and the Gun Club informed their approach. The five-song cassette All the Cheena Money Can Buy appeared first on Lo-Fi Lo-Life, after which the band issued a self-titled 7" through Sacred Bones in April 2015. Their debut album, Spend the Night With..., followed in August 2016.
