Biography
Earcandy, an a cappella ensemble, originated in 2020 on an online video streaming platform. Their covers of pop tracks quickly drew enormous streaming numbers, prompting the release of their first album, the holiday-themed An Earcandy Christmas.
The group’s debut clip surfaced in July 2020 as a version of Lily Allen’s “Smile.” Its members—Jonathan Tilkin, Sri Ramesh, Anthony Gargiula, Taylor Edlin, Kavya Borra, Ryan Narciso, Jilaine Marie Orton, Naomi Joy Turner, Nina Ann Nelson, Lyric Slaughter, and Lyn Lapid—had each built individual followings on their own social media accounts before uniting for these performances. After signing with Republic Records, the collective tracked An Earcandy Christmas with award-winning a cappella artist Justin Critchfield, Ed Boyer (Pentatonix, Glee), and Grammy-winning a cappella engineer Bill Hare. The album appeared at the close of 2020, only months after the outfit’s formation.
