Brooklyn rapper Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire channels the mid-'90s East Coast sound through laid-back, nostalgic beats and a relaxed cadence that aligns him with figures such as Method Man and Redman. Raised in New York, the artist honed a blend of grit and playful irreverence across early independent releases, beginning with the 2011 mixtape Lost in Translation.

Born Hugh Anthony Allison in Brooklyn during 1986, he first appeared on record with the 2008 project The Big Fat Kill before issuing Lost in Translation three years later. That tape included contributions from El-P along with Despot, Heems, Kool A.D., and Danny Brown, the latter appearing on a remix of the breakout track "Huzzah."

In 2012 he joined Universal Republic to issue the Power & Passion EP, which showcased beats from Dot da Genius, El-P, and SpaceGhostPurrp plus a guest verse from Gucci Mane on "Telephuck." The following year brought the mixtape Kismet and its reissue Kismet: Blue Edition, after which he parted ways with the label. Operating independently, he kept releasing material such as the ongoing holiday series Merry eXmas & Suck My Dick and the archival set Live from the Danger Room. His second EP, Live Forever, surfaced in 2015, followed by Brainiac in 2017 via the Chocolate Rabbit imprint. After building a reputation through numerous underground tapes, he delivered his self-titled debut studio album as an independent release in July 2019; the project featured only a handful of guests, among them KAST and Iceberg Black, over a set of assured, celebratory tracks.
