Taylor Neese on guitar and mandolin, JP Garland on guitars, and Mike Hintze handling vocals launched Mr. Yuck in Austin, Texas, during 1994. Once bass player Wes Staub departed, the lineup settled on the rhythm section of Sam Young at the drums and Paul Vetter on bass. Individual musical preferences soon shaped the collective direction, and repeated performances allowed the sound to grow more sophisticated over subsequent years. Operations halted without warning exactly when the group had reached its strongest creative point. The debut album Warm Up came out on A-attack Records in 1998, with prospects appearing solid until vocalist and part-time songwriter Hintze received notice of a two-year missionary assignment in Venezuela required to meet his personal calling, at which point Mr. Yuck disbanded. By the start of 1999 the project had become FLYNN, leaving only Young and Garland as the remaining original participants, while Vetter moved on to the local band Fat Chance.
