Biography
The origins of English electro-pop outfit Munch Munch lie in a chance encounter at a Bristol venue, where co-founder Richard Manber first caught Tom Carrell delivering Eurythmics numbers at an open-mike night. Their immediate rapport prompted the pair to begin crafting tracks together on laptops. Seeking greater sonic warmth, the two expanded to a quartet by bringing in Jack O’Connor and Sarah Louise Renwick, who took on the intricate percussion patterns initially sketched in the digital domain. With the lineup complete, the ensemble produces a frenetic, richly layered sound that fuses twisting analog synths and dense percussive textures, recalling Animal Collective’s experimental pop laced with the hyperkinetic glam of Sparks. The group issued its debut full-length, Double Visions, through Rough Trade in late 2010.
