Biography
An award-winning Nigerian producer, songwriter, and vocalist, Mut4y—born Okiemute Oniko—gained early-2010s visibility through the production partnership Legendury Beatz, which he shared with his brother Uzezi Oniko. The pair merged Afrobeat, hip-hop, reggae fusion, moombahton, and electro house, achieving major breakthrough in 2012 via the chart-topping Wizkid single “Azonto,” a collaboration that has remained ongoing and extensive.
During their early years the Oniko siblings absorbed the music of Congolese greats like Fela Kuti, Angelique Kidjo, and Lagbaja. They launched the production company Legendury Beatz in 2008 and secured their initial success the next year by linking with female rapper Weird MC to create the singles “Happy Day” and “Moving Up.” Their profile expanded sharply in 2012 once they joined Wizkid on the aforementioned “Azonto,” after which they became an integral part of the Lagos-based superstar’s Starboy Music imprint, crafting numerous hits for artists such as Brymo, Mo’Cheddah, and Chidinma.
Beyond the duo’s output, Oniko has issued solo productions under the Mut4y name, scoring major successes with Wizkid (“Manya” in 2017 and “Commando” in 2018), Maleek Berry
