Biography
The youthful origins of Mutha's Day Out in rural Arkansas stand in stark contrast to the band's intense blend of heavy rock and rap. Frustrated with the confines of Batesville, a town numbering just 9,000 residents, Mikal Moore on vocals, Brice Stephens on raps, Chuck Schaaf on guitar, Jeff Mogan on bass, and Rodney Moffit on drums assembled the group in late 1991. In search of affordable studio facilities, the five musicians journeyed to Memphis in April 1992, where an eager engineer quickly secured them a slot at that week's Crossroads Music Festival. A Chrysalis A&R representative attending the event to evaluate another act instead spotted Mutha's Day Out and extended a recording deal. Their debut album, My Soul Is Wet, surfaced in 1993.
