Established in Vermont during 2000 by musicians Matt Valentine and Erika Elder, the neo-psychedelic lo-fi experimental rock collective MV & EE draws on a shifting roster of contributors who gather for each successive undertaking and alias, among them MV & EE Medicine Show and the Bummer Road, to realize the duo’s self-described “lunar ragas.” The ensemble’s work has repeatedly drawn parallels to outfits such as Black Mountain and the Sunburned Hand of the Man, and the group has produced and issued dozens of recordings since its inception. Their catalog opened with the 2001 release Tonight! One Night Only! MV & EE In Heaven, after which numerous additional titles appeared on the pair’s own Child of Microtones label. Several further albums reached wider audiences through Thurston Moore’s Ecstatic Peace imprint, specifically 2006’s Green Blues, 2007’s Gettin’ Gone, and 2009’s Barn Nova. Matt Valentine stepped out alone in 2011 with the solo album What I Became on the Brooklyn freak folk label Woodsist, and MV & EE later returned to the same imprint for the 2012 full-length Space Homestead.
