Biography
The indie folk duo My Bubba, previously called My Bubby & Mi, pairs Icelander Guðbjörg Tómasdóttir (known professionally as Bubba) with Swede My Larsdotter, merging their melodic songcraft and understated vocals. Their first full-length release, the 2010 album How It's Done in Italy, showcased a spare aesthetic built around interlocking vocal lines, acoustic guitar, and cittra, the Norwegian lap harp.
The pair crossed paths accidentally amid travels in Copenhagen, then merged their itinerant habits to begin writing, recording, and playing throughout Europe and the United States. Initially a trio that also included Mia Olsen and operated under the name My Bubba & Mi, they issued How It's Done in Italy at the start of 2010. After a single and EP appeared in 2011, the lineup contracted to the remaining duo, who adopted the My Bubba moniker in 2013.
In Los Angeles they enlisted producer Noah Georgeson, whose prior credits include Joanna Newsom and Devendra Banhart, to shape the 2014 sophomore album Goes Abroader, issued on the Fake Diamonds label. The 2016 follow-up Big Bad Good was tracked in Brooklyn with Shahzad Ismaily, noted for collaborations with Colin Stetson and Sam Amidon. One year later the original track “Gone” appeared on a Third Man Records 7" single, backed by their version of Bob Dylan’s “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go.”
