Biography
Originating in Orlando, Florida, My Friend Steve was fronted by singer/songwriter Steve Burry, whose résumé encompassed stints in countless local outfits along with sporadic solo appearances that cultivated a devoted regional audience. Early in 1998, following his independent release of the EP The Schooling, Burry assembled the band alongside Eric Steinberg, Dave McMahon, and Pat Koch, all previously active in the popular Gainesville group Big White Undie; after bringing drummer Eric Gardner into the fold, the quartet tracked its debut LP Hope and Wait for release that fall via the Mammoth imprint.
