Biography
Myles Goodwyn, a versatile Canadian musician skilled as a singer, producer, guitarist, and author, originated from New Brunswick. He co-established the multi-platinum rock outfit April Wine, where he handled lead vocals, guitar duties, and primary songwriting. Individual projects under his name began in the late 1980s and stretched into the new millennium, running concurrently with his ongoing band commitments.
Early on he sharpened his craft in cover ensembles, though original songwriting started early; the notable April Wine hit "You Won't Dance with Me" was already composed during his teenage years. He steered the band across its strongest era from 1970 into the early 1980s before shifting focus to solo work. An eponymous solo album arrived in 1988. Goodwyn resumed fronting April Wine in 1992 and sustained that leadership role well into the twenty-first century. His second solo release, Myles Goodwyn and Friends of the Blues, came out in 2018 and spotlighted contributions from an array of established figures including Jack de Keyzer, Garrett Mason, David Wilcox, Amos Garrett, Kenny "Blues Boss" Wayne, Shaun Verreault, Bill Stevenson, and Rick Derringer.
Outside music he produced two books: the memoir Just Between You and Me in 2016 and the novel Elvis and Tiger two years afterward. Friends of the Blues 2 appeared in 2019. Goodwyn died on December 3, 2023, at age 75.
